PyTorch is moving to the Linux Foundation (LF) as a top-level project, announced Soumith Chintala on the PyTorch blog.

“PyTorch is one of the most important and successful machine learning software projects in the world today,” says Jim Zemlin, the LF’s executive director, and it has become a primary platform for AI research.

Now in its fifth year, PyTorch, an open source machine learning framework, has more than “2,400 contributors who have built nearly 154,000 projects using PyTorch as a foundation,” Chintala says.

“By creating a neutral home — the PyTorch Foundation — we are collectively locking in a future of transparency, communal governance, and unprecedented scale for all,” Zemlin says.
