Innovation is a big word, but it always starts with a small action based on a binary decision: yes, we do or no, we don’t. There are always multiple reasons not to do it. The reason for doing it is often vaguely defined, based on a hunch or an irresistible urge to do it anyway. Because if it weren’t, it wouldn’t be innovation; it would be business development.
Innovation is big when you succeed, and small when you don’t. Yet, there are always lessons to be learned. Over the last three years, I have been responsible for driving innovation at AMS-IX, one of the world’s largest hubs for internet traffic. With several projects ready to break through to the other side — business development — I have compiled a list of learnings and insights gathered over the past few years. I have also included the video of the latest AMS-IX innovation update at More IP 2025. It highlights the opportunities for innovation that lie ahead.
