TIOBE recently named C++ the top programming language of 2022, outscoring Rust, C#, Go, and others by a large margin.
Although Python remains the most popular language overall, TIOBE chose the winner based on its growth in popularity. The top five languages in terms of popularity growth are:
- C++ (+4.62%)
- C (+3.82%)
- Python (+2.78%)
- Java (+1.55%)
- JavaScript (+0.78%)
“The reason for C++’s popularity is its excellent performance while being a high-level, object-oriented language,” TIOBE says. Another reason is its “recent and constant publication of new language standards with interesting features.”
