Long-term support (LTS) for Linux kernels is being reduced from six to two years, reports Steven J. Vaughan-Nichols.
The change is being made for the simple reason that people are not using these versions, says Jonathan Corbet, Linux kernel developer and executive editor of LWN.net. Another reason is that Linux code maintainers are burning out in the face of obstacles like lack of pay and increasing demands on their time.
