Azure CycleCloud is not the best-practice solution for managing filesystems in Azure given the existence of multiple shared filesystem services supported by Azure Storage. The project code is available as open-source in GitHub for future users who would like to build a BeeGFS cluster. After BeeGFS is retired, users can use Blob NFS, ANF support, or Azure Managed Lustre. The project code will be archived in GitHub and no longer maintained as an active open-source project.

The existing experience that Azure CycleCloud BeeGFS filesystem cluster type offers will no longer be supported starting 30 September 2024. Although you can still use Azure CycleCloud BeeGFS filesystem cluster type on CycleCloud 7 and CycleCloud 8 beyond 30 September 2024, this will no longer receive updates from Microsoft. When you bring your workloads to future versions of Azure CycleCloud, the workloads may work, but will be unsupported.

Required Action

BeeGFS cluster creation will no longer be available via the Azure CycleCloud GUI.  BeeGFS users must switch to manually importing the legacy GitHub project to create new BeeGFS clusters by 30 September 2024.
