We’re excited to announce the general availability of the read replica feature in Azure Government regions and Microsoft Azure operated by 21Vianet regions, including US Gov Arizona, Texas, Virginia, China North 3, and China East 3 for Azure Database for PostgreSQL – Flexible Server.

The read replica feature allows you to isolate read workloads to the replicas, ensuring optimized performance, while directing write workloads to the primary server. This separation not only improves efficiency but also enhances the overall system reliability. Additionally, read replicas can be deployed in different regions, providing a robust solution for disaster recovery scenarios. In such events, these replicas can be converted to read-write servers, ensuring your operations continue seamlessly.

Employing PostgreSQL engine native physical replication technology, replicas are updated asynchronously, maintaining data integrity and consistency. You have the flexibility to replicate from the primary server to up to five replicas, allowing for extensive scalability and redundancy.

Please note, preview features such as promoting to primary server and virtual endpoints are not supported in these regions.
