Microsoft has finally ended support for Internet Explorer, writes Steven J. Vaughan-Nichols, as the Internet Explorer 11 desktop application was officially retired on June 15, 2022, for certain versions of Windows 10.

However, he notes, “the IE11 desktop client on Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 (and even Windows 10 Enterprise, version 20H2), with extended security updates, will stagger on.”

In this article, Vaughan-Nichols looks at the rise and fall of Internet Explorer, saying, “goodbye and good riddance to the most annoying web browser of them all.”
