On 31 October 2023, Oracle will retire MySQL v5.7. They will no longer provide security or software updates after that date, and you’ll need to upgrade Azure Database for MySQL to MySQL v8.0.

To give you more time to adjust to this change, we’re prolonging support for MySQL v5.7 in Azure Database for MySQL beyond 31 October 2023:

  • Support for v5.7 in Azure Database for MySQL Single Server will be extended until Single Server is retired on 16 September 2024.
  • Support for v5.7 in Azure Database for MySQL Flexible Server will be extended until 30 September 2025.

Required action

To continue receiving the latest MySQL security and software updates:

  • If you use Azure Database for MySQL Single Server, first migrate to Flexible Server by 16 September 2024. Then, upgrade to MySQL v8.0 by 30 September 2025.
  • If you use Azure Database for MySQL Flexible Server,upgrade to MySQL v8.0 by 30 September 2025.
