You can now select the latest major PostgreSQL version, PostgreSQL 16, for Azure Cosmos DB for PostgreSQL clusters. Existing clusters can be upgraded to PostgreSQL 16 using the in-place upgrade feature. With PostgreSQL 16 available on Azure Cosmos DB for PostgreSQL clusters, you can benefit from: query performance improvements with more parallelism; developer experience enhancements; monitoring of I/O stats using pg_stat_io view; and enhanced security features, among other improvements.

You can initiate in-place upgrades using the Azure portal, Bicep, ARM templates, REST API calls, Terraform, Azure SDKs, or Azure CLI.
