Chef run_lists and cookbooks in Azure CycleCloud cluster-init projects will be retired on 31 March 2025.

The 3rd party open-source version of the Chef software configuration toolkit is end of life (EOL) and is no longer maintained. As a result, the existing Azure CycleCloud feature supporting custom Chef run_lists and cookbooks in cluster-init projects will no longer be supported starting 31 March 2025. Although you can still use Chef run_lists and cookbooks in your cluster-init projects on CycleCloud 8 beyond 31 March 2025, future releases will no longer include the feature. When you migrate your cluster-init projects to future versions of CycleCloud, any Chef cookbooks used in the projects must be replaced with cluster-init scripts or other alternatives.

Required Action

Stop using Chef run_lists and cookbooks in CycleCloud cluster-init projects. You can use shell script driven configuration in your cluster-init projects after 31 March 2025.
