With Azure savings plan for compute organizations can reduce their usage cost by up to 65% off list pay-as-you-go rates, by making an hourly spend commitment for 1 or 3 years. This is a powerful cost savings offering. Today, we are pleased to announce the availability of 3 new tenant-level, role-based access control (RBAC) roles – Savings plan purchaser, Savings plan administrator and Savings plan reader, that enable organizations to delegate who can purchase, manage, and view savings plans.

  • Savings plan purchaser can purchasemanage and analyze savings plans in their Microsoft Entra tenant (directory)
    • This role enables users who do not have billing admin or subscription owner roles to purchase savings plans – either as a new purchase or as part of a reservation trade-in.
    • Organizations can limit savings plan purchases to only billing admins by disabling the Azure Savings Plan policy in the Azure portal. Learn more here.
  • Savings plan administrator can manage savings plans in their directory.
  • Savings plan reader has read-only access to savings plans in their directory.
